FAQs

Questions people often ask.

Can’t see your question? Call us on 0405 117 968 or send an enquiry and we’ll get back to you.

Do I need any experience with horses?

Not at all. Most people who come to us have never spent time with horses. We introduce you slowly and you are always supported by an equine specialist.

Will I ride the horses?

Not in therapy or learning sessions. All of that work happens on the ground, which means everyone can take part regardless of ability. On-lead riding is part of our horsemanship lessons and birthday parties only, and weight limits apply.

What is the difference between EAP and EAL?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is therapy: every session includes a registered mental health professional as well as an equine specialist, following the Eagala model. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is educational and is run by an equine specialist without a counsellor. Both can be calming and helpful; we will help you choose.

Who is it suitable for?

Children, teenagers, adults, families, couples, groups and teams. Our work can be especially helpful for people living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or intellectual or physical disability, and for people who find talking therapy difficult.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

We welcome NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. Our sessions often align with capacity building and social and community participation goals. Support coordinators and plan managers are welcome to call us to talk through a participant’s plan.

How much do sessions cost?

Fees depend on the program and group size. Get in touch and we will give you clear pricing before you book. Team days and school groups receive a free, tailored quote.

How do you keep everyone safe?

Our horses are chosen for their temperament and handled daily. All facilitators hold a current Working with Children Check, a NSW criminal history check and a first aid certificate, and we carry public liability insurance. Every session starts with a simple safety briefing.

Are counselling sessions confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy sessions stays confidential, within the usual professional and legal limits that your counsellor will explain at your first session.

Where are you located?

We are on a private property in Blaxlands Ridge in the Hawkesbury, close to Kurrajong and Richmond. We send the full address and directions once your booking is confirmed.

What should we wear and bring?

Closed-toe shoes or boots, long pants and clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dusty. Bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle in the warmer months, and a warm jacket in winter.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain is fine and the horses don’t mind it. In storms, extreme heat or high fire danger we will contact you to reschedule.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or move a session, so we can offer the time to someone else.
